Injured Middletown police officer ‘progressing’ 3 weeks after fall

Detective Justin Camper, a nine-year veteran of the Middletown Division of Police, remains hospitalized three weeks after he was injured in a fall outside the police station.

“He is progressing, and we ask that everyone keep him in their thoughts, ” said Lt. Jimmy Cunningham.

He added Camper might be released from the hospital by the end of the week.

Camper is assigned to the department’s Special Operations Unit and was retrieving items out of a police vehicle that had to be towed, Muterspaw said. It appeared he suffered a head injury.

Witnesses said Camper was on top of a wrecker and fell.

Middletown paramedics worked on Camper for several minutes until he was taken in a medic unit from the lot to Smith Park, where he was flown to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
