Maynard, who is leaving as the public utility consultant with Sawvel & Associates in Findlay, will begin around Feb. 10. His starting annual salary will be $118,000. Pochard left the city earning $112,000 annually.
Maynard has more than 30 years of public utility experience, which includes operating and managing municipal electric, water treatment and distribution, cable television and internet, wastewater collection and treatment, storm water management, and natural gas utilities in Ohio, Minnesota and Michigan.
During his time working in public utilities, Maynard had been the director of utilities for Bowling Green, Ohio; general manager of municipal services for Wyandotte, Mich.; and director of utilities in Bryan, Ohio
City Manager Joshua Smith said director positions are hired at the discretion of the city manager’s office, and they needed to fill the position soon as the electric department is the city’s largest department.
“Kevin will be able to hit the ground running in this critically important position with the city and its utility systems,” said Douglas Childs, Hamilton director of Public Utilities/General Manager. “The city is in the midst of a number of large capital projects, such as the Meldahl Hydroelectric Plant project, and a smooth transition in the directorship of the Department of Electric was vital.”
Hamilton owns and operates all four of the primary utilities in the city, including electric generation, transmission and distribution, natural gas distribution, water treatment and distribution, and water reclamation systems.
