Madison teen who made school threat released from juvenile detention

A judge reversed his earlier decision and today allowed a Madison Twp. teen charged with making a terroristic threat to be let out of the Butler County Juvenile Detention Center.

At the boy’s court appearance earlier this month, his mother asked the judge to place the 15-year-old on house arrest so he could spend time with his ill grandfather, 84.

At that time, Butler County Juvenile Court Judge Ronald Craft rejected the mother’s request, saying he had a “responsibility” to the community and its safety.

This morning Craft reversed that decision, saying he had reviewed the boy’s risk assessment evaluation.

Craft told the teen he wasn’t allowed to have weapons or return to Madison Jr./Sr. High School property.

The teen was arrested after he allegedly made threats and referenced a school shooting that injured four students last year, according to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

The freshman told a female student that she “needed to watch out because he was going to do an ‘Austin Hancock Version 2’ at the school,” according to the complaint from the Butler County juvenile court.

The student, who this news outlet is not naming because of his age, was involved in an argument with another student when he made the threat, according to the complaint.

His pretial hearing is set for next month, according to court documents.
