Kids ordered to scrub Middletown park equipment after graffiti spree

Three Middletown girls spent some time cleaning graffiti off playground equipment this week in Crawford Park.

The girls, between ages 9 and 12, admitted to a police officer that they wrote profane words and degrading drawings about another girl, age 11, on the equipment, according to the police report.

The officer spoke with the three girls, who initially denied any involvement in the vandalism.

When the officer said there may be cameras in the park and they would be reviewed of possible suspects who could face charges, the girls confessed, according to the police report.

The girls were then told to get some cleaning supplies from home and get to work.

According to the city’s parks department, the girls did spend some time clean up the graffiti, but the staff also had to finish the job to ensure all of the graffiti was gone.
