Fairfield homicide victim identified

The shooting death of Sylvestor T. Gibson Sears, 27, of Chicago, has been ruled a homicide, according to the Butler County Coroner's office.

But Fairfield police spokesman Doug Day said that’s all they know at this point as the stories are conflicting among Adam Armstrong, the suspected shooter; the surviving gunshot victim, a 33-year-old from Cincinnati; and a female witness.

Police are not yet releasing the names of the woman or the surviving gunshot victim, who was treated and released from the University of Cincinnati Hospital Medical Center.

Police responded after two 911 calls to the scene of Winton Road near Nilles Road and found one man shot to death and another with a gunshot wound late Tuesday night in a business parking lot. They also found Armstrong and the woman.

Armstrong, 29, of Cincinnati, has been charged with felonious assault. His bond is set at $750,000.

Day said the motive behind the shooting is not being released at this time because “we’re trying to verify the alibis and statements from the individuals.”

“As little as (Armstrong is) talking with us, he’s given a very different story (than the others),” Day said.

They do know that Armstrong had no relationship with Gibson Sears, the woman, or the surviving 33-year-old gunshot victim.
