Court date set for man charged in Fairfield homicide

Adam Armstrong is scheduled to be in Fairfield Municipal Court next week related to his alleged involvement in a shooting that wounded one and killed another.

No charges have yet been levied in the homicide of Sylvestor T. Gibson Sears, a 27-year-old from Chicago. However, Fairfield Municipal Court records show Armstrong, 29, of Cincinnati, is facing a felonious assault charge — a second-degree felony — related to the gunshot wound sustained by Cedric D. Moore, 33, of Cincinnati.

Armstrong was arraigned Wednesday, the day after the shooting, and his case was continued until 8:30 a.m. April 26 in Fairfield Municipal Court. His bond was set at $750,000 and he remains in the Butler County Jail.

Armstrong was arrested following a double shooting Tuesday evening in the area of Winton and Nilles roads.

Gibson Sears was found dead at the scene, and Moore was found wounded with non-life threatening injuries.

Moore was treated and released at University of Cincinnati Hospital Medical Center, according to police.

Police said earlier this week the motive behind the shooting is not clear as there is conflicting stories being given. Armstrong has provided police a different version of what happened Tuesday night than the others being questioned.

The Butler County Coroner's Office released Thursday its autopsy report on Gibson Sears and declared his shooting death a homicide.

Armstrong has a criminal record in Fairfield with several findings of guilty, including on three counts of theft and a count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

There was a witness to the alleged shooting, a woman, whose panicked reaction prompted multiple 911 calls to police.

Police said they are not releasing the woman’s name because she is a witness.
