Buffalo Wings & Rings eyes Butler County for new restaurant

Another restaurant chain is eyeing Liberty Twp. for a new location.

This time, Cincinnati-based Buffalo Wings & Rings has reached a deal to buy about two acres of land on Yankee Road to build a new standalone restaurant with the latest prototype design, said Philip Schram, chief development officer for the company.

The Yankee Road location is an outlot of the Kroger-anchored shopping center near the intersection with Cincinnati-Dayton Road, Schram said.

Buffalo Wings & Rings is growing nationwide and offers a family-friendly sports bar and restaurant concept, Schram said.

“Our biggest priority is to continue to develop and improve the brand in greater Cincinnati first and then I would say the Tristate,” he said.

“It makes sense to open a store in north Cincinnati,” he said. “It’s an area that is booming with a lot of families.”

The Liberty Twp. Zoning Commission approved plans Sept. 9 with some conditions for the 5,915-square-foot restaurant, according to Caroline McKinney, spokeswoman for the township.

The township owns the land and the company has until early October to conduct its due diligence before going through with the purchase, McKinney said.

Schram expects the deal to buy the land to close shortly. However, construction is not due to start until next summer, with an opening planned for early 2017. That’s because the eatery has about 10 to 15 different locations in the pipeline in multiple states that are in various stages of site selection and construction.

A new Buffalo Wings & Wings is also set to open this year in Deerfield Twp.

The company has not yet decided if Liberty Twp. will be a corporate or franchise-owned location, Schram said.

Buffalo Wings & Rings was founded in 1984 and operates about 60 restaurants in the U.S. and Middle East, including locations in Monroe and Fairfield, according to the company's website. The menu includes wings, burgers, gyros, wraps, salads, sandwiches and quesadillas.

Elsewhere in Liberty Twp., Midland Retail has ongoing construction on the new retail center Liberty Connection at the corner of Liberty One Drive and Cincinnati-Dayton Road.

Midland Retail has so far signed Chipotle, Supercuts and AT&T for the 11,444-square-foot retail center, according to the commercial real estate firm. The building — which has room for six storefronts — is set to open by the end of the year, Brad Austing, development and brokerage executive for Midland, previously told Journal-News.

Also, construction continues on the $350 million Liberty Center project, the mega shopping, dining, residential and office complex under construction at the crossroads of Interstate 75, Ohio 129 and Liberty Way. The center is scheduled to open its first phase — consisting of more than 1 million-square-feet spread over about 65 acres — in October. Anchor tenants include Dillard's department store, Dick's Sporting Goods and dinner-and-movie theater CineBistro.
