Dry today but Friday rain transitions to snow overnight; 1-3 inches possible

Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are possible after rain showers late Friday transition to snow when Arctic air moves into the region ahead of a significant warming trend for next week.

Today will be seasonable and dry, with the high around 50 degrees and an overnight low around 32 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Clouds will increase early Friday morning, and showers are expected, mainly after 4 p.m., with a high near 49 degrees. Rain Friday night will mix with snow and transition to all snow after 11 p.m. The overnight low will fall to around 22 degrees with single-digit wind chills. The NWS predicted possible snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches along and northeast of Interstate 71. Also, 3 to 5 inches of snow is possible southeast of I-71, which will be under a winter storm watch beginning Friday evening.

There is a slight chance of snow before 7 a.m. Saturday, then a slight chance of snow showers after 1 p.m. Otherwise it will be mostly cloudy and well below normal with a high near 27 degrees and wind gusts as high as 30 mph possible.

Saturday night will be partly cloudy with a low around 16 degrees with single-digit wind chills expected.

Temperatures rebound quickly on Sunday to the 40s for the start of a significant warming trend. Highs will reach around 46 degrees Sunday and into the middle 50s Monday and lower 60s on Tuesday and into the 60s on Wednesday.
