DETAILED FORECAST

Overnight: There will be light showers with a possible lull in much of the precipitation, Storm Center 7 Meteorologist Dontae Jones said. It will stay mild with temperatures in the lower 50s. Areas of fog, with some pretty dense, are likely by the early morning.

>> When is trick-or-treating in your city this year?

Halloween: Heavy rain for the Thursday morning commute continues through the morning before moving out by early afternoon. There may be a lull in the action late afternoon, though a few scattered showers may linger. A cold front will push the rain to the east late afternoon. Rain totals will range from ½ to 1 inch.

Trick-or-treating looks mostly dry, but there could still be a few lingering showers along with a few snowflakes mixed in. Some areas may see all snowflakes but with no accumulation. Unfortunately, temperatures will go from the upper 50s late morning to the 30s in some spots by late evening. Winds will gust between 30 and 40 mph, especially at night so the wind chill for the kids could drop to the 20s.

>> Freeze Watch vs. Freeze Warning: What’s the difference?

Freeze Watch goes into effect at 11 p.m. and lasts through 11 a.m. Friday. Subfreezing temperatures as low as 28 degrees possible. Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possible damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained or allowed to drip slowly. In-ground sprinkler systems should be drained and above-ground pipes covered to protect them from freezing.

Overnight, skies will be cloudy and mainly dry, but some sprinkles or even a stray flurry could mix in the far north. Temperatures will dip into the upper 20s, effectively ending the growing season.
