Zach Smith arrested for violating domestic protection order

Zach Smith is in trouble again.

The former Ohio State receivers coach was in Delaware County jail Friday morning after being arrested for violating a domestic protection order granted to his ex-wife, Courtney.

The 35-year-old Smith was booked at 6:24 Thursday night and has a hearing set for Friday morning.

The county sheriff’s office told The Toledo Blade that Zach Smith had a run-in with staff at the elementary the former couple’s children attend in a Columbus suburb when he was not allowed to pick them up from school.

Smith became a household name among college football fans last summer after the public disclosure of the protection order led to his being fired.

An investigation into how then-Ohio State coach Urban Meyer handled previous allegations Zach had abused Courtney during their marriage subsequently found Meyer had followed protocol.

However, Meyer was suspended for three games as a result of the investigation uncovering various misdeeds Zach Smith had committed during his time on Meyer's staff.

Meyer was punished for mishandling the employment of Smith, who is the grandson of the late Earle Bruce, a former Ohio State football coach and one of Meyer’s mentors.

Meyer retired in January.
