HS Roundup 5/15: Eaton softball knocks of Tippecanoe in district semis

Eaton softball slipped past Tippecanoe, 6-3, to advance to the district finals to be held Saturday, May 19.

Annika Gels reached her 400th career strikeout on her first strikeout of the game, striking out 10 batters in total.

Gels tacked on one hit and one RBI, while running for a double in the win.

Becca Mowen paved the way offensively, collecting two hits, two RBIs and two doubles for Eaton. Bailey Shephard tacked on two additional hits.

Eaton will face Clinton Massie on Saturday, May 19 in the D-II district finals matchup.

Regular Season

Coldwater 4, Lincolnview 3: Jack Muhlenklamp, Nathan Grunden and Sam Broering each collected two hits to lead Coldwater in the winning effort. Coldwater will continue their tournament play against Van Buren on Thursday, May 17.

Clinton Massie 7, McNicholas 3: Clinton Massie got off to an early 4-1 lead and held on to earn the SBC title. Clinton Massie will face Eaton on Saturday, May 19 in the district finals.

Greenville 7, Carroll 1: Greenville will face Ross on Saturday, May 19 in the next stage of the district tournament.

Cin. Christian 7, Felicity Franklin 0: Cincinnati Christian advanced to play Bradford in the district final matchup as a result of its shutout victory. Bradford routed Tri-County North, 8-2, to earn its spot in the final.

Mechanicsburg 13, Covington 1: ‘Burg advanced to the D-IV district finals where they will face Riverside. Riverside topped Franklin Monroe, 8-7 to advance.

Newton 9, Russia 5: With the win, Newton advanced to the district finals where it will take on Fayetteville-Perry, who knocked off Cin. Country Day, 10-0.

Boys Tennis

Miami Valley 3, Centerville 2: Colton Morehart picked up a win at first singles, as Niyanth Reddy won a hard fought battle at second singles to earn two of Miami Valley’s three matches. The doubles duo of Makul Sharma and Reece Quigley took the first doubles matchup to earn Miami Valley the Win. Dhruv Gollmonudi and the doubles team of Rishi Apalaaneni and Will Owen won for Centerville.

Boys Volleyball

Alter 3, Fenwick 2: Alter took a hard fought win over #3 state ranked Fenwick. Josh Kabel recorded 47 assists and 20 digs in the win, as Andrew Rose collected 18 kills, 17 digs and two aces. Dan Nye rounded out the effort with 14 kills and five digs.

Carroll 3, Chaminade Julienne 1: Carroll dropped the first set 25-27 but rallied back to take the next three 25-19, 25-23 and 25-15. John Brun tallied 23 kills and 17 digs, while Spencer Bethel tacked on 48 assists, 13 digs and four blocks in the win.
