HS Roundup 5/14: Area softball teams advance to district finals

Centerville, Lebanon, Springboro, Lakota East, Lakota West and Fairfield each advanced to Division I district finals in tournament softball action on Monday.

The Division I teams will return to tournament action on Saturday.

Madison, Indian Lake and West Liberty-Salem also moved on in Division III tournament play.

Springboro 2, Middletown 0: Molly Pfiffner tossed eleven innings of shutout softball, including 14 strikeouts, to lead ‘Boro. Sarah Metcalfe doubled down the line to plate the first run and Rachel Oxley added a RBI single. Springboro moves on to play Lakota West in a district final on Saturday.

Centerville 9, Springfield 3: Anna Samborsky had a two-run single to put Centerville on the board and Centerville pushed across six runs in the fifth inning to take a commanding lead in this district semifinal. Centerville advances to face Mason on Saturday.

Lebanon 14, Tecumseh 4: Junior Ashley West collected her 100th career hit for Lebanon, which advanced to a district final vs. Fairfield on Saturday.

Lakota East 14, Kings 4: East jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the third inning, tacking on six more runs in the fourth to advance to a district final vs. Milford.

Fairfield 2, Western Brown 0: Rhiana Hubbard put Fairfield on the board with a sacrifice fly to score Lindsey Mitchell and Jordan Shotwell stole home to add an insurance run for Fairfield.

West Liberty-Salem 9, Milton Union 5: WLS scored six runs in the first inning for a quick start. Dierdre McGill doubled and drove in three runs and Maddie Estes doubled and plated two. WLS will face Madison for a shot at a district title.

Indian Lake 7, Arcanum 3: Indian Lake rallied with five runs in the final two innings to move on to a district final vs. Deer Park.

Regular Season

Centerville 9, Butler 8: Drew Smith drove in the game-winning RBI for Centerville, which scored five runs in the top of the seventh for the rally win.

Anna 21, Brookville 9: Caleb Kauffman drove in six runs, four coming off of a grand slam to lead Anna. Carter Elliott added four RBI and Seth Stiefel drove in three runs. Bailey Wallen doubled and drove in two for Brookville.

Fort Loramie 6, Kenton Ridge 3: Carter Mescher tallied three hits with a double and Jared Middendorf doubled and tripled for Fort Loramie. Zach Schneider went 2-for-3 with a double for KR.

St. Henry 4, Wapakoneta 2: Rylee Deitsch tied the game with a groundout RBI in the fifth and Ryan Luttmer scored the eventual winning run in a battle of state ranked teams. Daylen Froning picked up the win on the mound and Curtis Uhlenhake tacked on the save.

Van Wert 4, Coldwater 3: Jacob Wenning had two hits in four at bats and Nathan Grunden had one RBI in a losing effort for Coldwater.

Boys Tennis

Miami Valley 5, Miamisburg 0: Colton Morehart and Niyanth Reddy didn’t allow a point in their singles wins and Jackson Newell added a straight-set victory for Miami Valley.
