Reds pitcher has hip surgery, won’t be ready for spring training

Reds right-hander Rookie Davis had surgery on Monday to repair the labrum and to remove a bone spur in his right hip. The team said Davis, 24, is not expected to be ready for spring training.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Bryan Kelly in New York. Kelly performed hip surgery on Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco in 2015 and 2016.

Davis was 1-3 with an 8.63 ERA in seven games, including six starts, for the Reds this season. At Triple-A Louisville, he had a 4.77 ERA in 11 starts.

Davis was acquired by the Reds from the Yankees in the Aroldis Chapman trade in 2015.
