Fairfield High School’s softball team advanced in walkoff fashion Monday as senior Jordan Shotwell launched a one-out, three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Indians to an 8-5 victory over West Clermont in a Division I district semifinal at Princeton.
Shotwell was 3-for-4 with four RBIs for fifth-seeded Fairfield (19-5). Payton Blackman drove in two runs for the seventh-seeded Wolves (19-6).
The Indians will meet Greater Miami Conference rival Lakota West for a district championship at 5 p.m. on Friday at Lakota East. Fairfield and West split during the regular season.
Lindsey Mitchell was Fairfield’s winning pitcher Monday as she tossed a nine-hitter. Mitchell, Maiah Hodge and Maddie Schaeffer all contributed two hits for the Tribe, while Hodge, Schaeffer, Hannah Miller and Natalie Elliott added an RBI apiece.
