Ohio State’s Urban Meyer takes issue with being penalized at Wisconsin

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer laughed when asked if his head was OK after a game official made contact with him during the Buckeyes’ 30-23 win at Wisconsin on Saturday night.

But he seriously did not seem to think it should have resulted in a 15-yard penalty.

“It was my fault, but it should not have been a penalty,” Meyer said Monday during his weekly press luncheon.

“A 15-yard penalty for that? In a big game. Somebody will say, ‘That’s the rule.’ Well get rid of the damn rule. That’s not a good rule.”

He added that he got in touch with Big Ten director of officials Bill Carollo, who told him the call was incorrect.

“I don’t know if I’m allowed to say this, and if not I don’t care,” Meyer said. “That should not have been a penalty, per Bill Carollo.”

Ohio State fell behind 16-6 in Madison before rallying to win in overtime and remain undefeated.
