Monroe’s Gomia returning to Optimist International golf event

Alex Gomia, a junior-to-be at Monroe High School, has qualified for the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship for the second straight year.

Seven hundred golfers will be competing in seven age divisions at the PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. It’s the 22nd consecutive year for this site, which includes the Palmer, Fazio, Estates and Squire courses.

From July 17 to 22, the boys 10-11 and 12-13 divisions will compete, along with the girls 10-12 group. From July 22 to 27, it’s the boys 14-15 and girls 13-14 divisions. From July 27 to Aug. 1, the 16-18 boys and 15-18 girls will play.

Gomia will be competing in the boys 16-18 division. He carded a 94-94—188 in last year’s boys 14-15 division.
