MLB announces punishment following Reds-Pirates brawl

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Yasiel Puig and manager David Bell were suspended for their roles in the bench-clearing brawl in Pittsburgh on Sunday.

Pirates pitcher Chris Archer, who threw behind Reds batter Derek Dietrich in the fourth inning seemingly in retaliation for Dietrich admiring a long home run he hit earlier in the game, received a five-game suspension as well. He can appeal the punishment.

Puig will sit two games beginning tonight when the Reds play the Miami Marlins at home.

Bell will also serve his one-game suspension tonight.

The Reds manager, who sprinted out to argue with the plate umpire after Archer was issued a warning, was punished for “aggressive actions” during the incident.

The same term was applied to Puig’s punishment.

Archer, Puig and Bell all received fines as well.
