Rain postponed the Kenton Ridge vs. Monroe softball Division II district championship game on Friday. The game will be played at 4 p.m. Saturday at Brookville High School.

Kenton Ridge beat Northwestern 3-2 on Wednesday in Springfield. The Cougars last won a district title in 2013 when they advanced to the state championship game before losing 6-5 to Newark Licking Valley.

"I think the seniors really want it," coach Sarah Schalnat said. "They're focused. Every day they come to practice ready to practice. They're shocked if I give them any time off. They know they're going to practice and be there for a couple hours."

Monroe, which seeks its first district title, beat Franklin 5-0 on Wednesday in Lebanon.

“It takes a team to beat a good team, and I think that’s what we did today,” catcher Sam Schwab said. “Everyone definitely stepped up. Our bats weren’t working at first, but everyone knew what to do. We were calm, we were poised, and we showed it. We definitely have more work to do, but we’re all excited. We’re all pumped. I think we’re on a high right now. There’s no limit for this team. We’re just going to keep going until we can’t anymore.”
