Jose Siri’s big bat leads Dragons to first-game win over Fort Wayne in playoffs

Jose Siri hit three singles and scored on a force out in the top of the eighth inning to lead the Dayton Dragons to a 2-1 win over the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Saturday.

After clawing back to beat Western Michigan in the first round in extra innings late Friday, the Dragons took the first game of the three-game Eastern Division playoff series.

Wennington Romero started and pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing six hits and a run while striking out eight. Jesse Stallings took over in the seventh, allowing just a hit and striking out two in an innings and two thirds to get the win. Dauri Moreta got his first save of the playoffs in the ninth, striking out two and keeping Fort Wayne off base.

Fort Wayne’s only scored on a throwing error. Dragons pitching didn’t allow an earned run while combining for 12 strikeouts.

The Dragons play at home against Fort Wayne on Sunday at 7 p.m. The winner of the series plays in the Midwest League Championship best-of-five.
