High School Football: Svarda, Friend power Mohawks

Cameron Svarda and Ryan Friend combined for more than 200 yards on the ground Friday night as Madison High School’s football team defeated visiting Monroe 21-12.

Svarda ran 18 times for 102 yards and a touchdown, while Friend totaled 103 yards on 14 carries. The Mohawks rumbled to 375 rushing yards.

Friend also caught a TD pass from Mason Whiteman as Madison (2-0) pushed its winning streak to seven. Whiteman completed 2 of 2 passes for 47 yards and chipped in 78 yards on seven carries. Tyler Baumgartner added a scoring run.

The Hornets are 0-2.

Mount Healthy 21, Fenwick 7: The host Falcons committed three first-half turnovers and were held to 174 total yards in falling to 0-2.

Amarius Gates rushed for 76 yards and scored Fenwick’s only touchdown. Mount Healthy improved to 2-0.

Centerville 52, Lakota West 35: Zelwyn Robinson ran 18 times for 152 yards and three touchdowns as the visiting Firebirds dropped to 0-2.

Tayvion White added a rushing TD for West. Tony White was 11 of 21 for 150 yards and a scoring connection with Payton Porterfield.

Colin DeBord totaled 217 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries for the Elks (1-1).

Pickerington North 37, Lakota East 34: Dylan Fry threw for 161 yards and hit Xavier Warren twice for touchdowns, but the host Thunderhawks fell to 1-1.

Tyler VanFossen, Silas Ingram and Fry had rushing TDs. VanFossen gained 77 yards on 24 carries, while Fry had 72 yards on 10 carries.

Pickerington is 2-0.

Washington Court House Miami Trace 30, Carlisle 27: The visiting Panthers (2-0) rallied with 10 unanswered points in the fourth period to drop the Indians to 0-2.

Ridge Reed had 16 rushes for 197 yards and two touchdowns for Carlisle, and Jake Moore connected with Caleb Boy for a score. D.J. Chambers added a 95-yard kickoff return for a TD.

Walnut Hills 35, Ross 7: Zach Arno scored the visiting Rams' only touchdown on a 25-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Ross fell to 1-1, while the Eagles improved to 2-0.

Lebanon 45, Loveland 34: Dakota Allen and Dawson Wolf ran for two touchdowns apiece as the host Warriors evened their record at 1-1.

Allen was 21 of 29 for 248 yards and two TDs, both to Zach Barsala, through the air. Wolf ran 24 times for 120 yards.

The Tigers slipped to 0-2.

Hillcrest 38, New Miami 14: Kyle Kellum ran for a touchdown and a conversion for the host Vikings (0-2), while Eli Johnson scored on a fumble recovery in the end zone.
