Flyer volleyball joins list of Dayton teams with high expectations

Who says Dayton is just a basketball school?

An interesting fall is shaping up for the Flyers after another team was tabbed a conference favorite.

This time it is coach Tim Horsman’s women’s volleyball team. The Flyers tied Saint Louis with 83 points in coaches’ balloting, but Dayton had more first-place votes.

Dayton is coming off a 14-0 regular season and its sixth A-10 title in the past seven seasons.

Their selection follows the women's soccer team being named the favorite in the Atlantic-10 last week.

The football team checked in one point shy of No. 1 in Pioneer League picks, trailing favored San Diego by one point in balloting in late July.

Last fall, Dayton finished fifth in the FCS in the Directors’ Cup standings.

The Flyers got points in those standings from football, men’s soccer and women’s volleyball.
