Dayton Flyers: Obadiah Toppin highlights create buzz online

Obadiah Toppin could be a secret weapon for the Dayton Flyers this season.

Unless the redshirt freshman’s videos keep going viral on social media.

A 30-second clip posted this week had already been viewed over 200,000 times as of Wednesday morning, and it gives some clues about what Toppin could bring to the floor for UD this season.

Of course translating his skills to a game is different, but the Ossining, N.Y., native shows off a nice array of things from which to build.

Let’s see, tip dunk, fadeaway jumper, NBA 3-point range, windmill dunk, tough layup against contact?

Those all seem like things coach Anthony Grant can use as the Flyers try to bounce back from a 14-17 season that snapped their NCAA tournament streak.

Regarded as a late bloomer, Toppin went to prep school for a year after high school and signed with the Flyers in May 2017 over offers from Illinois and Mississippi State.

He was 6-foot-8 then but said recently he has grown to 6-10.

Toppin wasn't eligible to play last season because of academics, but he could jump right into a significant role this fall after the graduation of Darrell Davis and the exit of five players who had eligibility remaining.
