College Insider: Middletown’s Snow a first-year hoop leader at Lourdes

Clifton Snow has made a strong transition to college basketball this winter.

The 6-foot-5 freshman forward and Middletown High School graduate is the leading scorer (10.5) and rebounder (6.3) for the Lourdes University men’s squad in Sylvania.

Snow is also averaging 2 assists and 1 steal per game for the Gray Wolves and scored a career-high 20 points in a 73-70 loss to Indiana Tech last Saturday. He’s converted a team-leading 32 treys and is shooting 84.6 percent from the foul line.

Lourdes, 10-13 overall and 3-11 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, will travel to Concordia (Mich.) on Wednesday at 8 p.m.

Women's basketball: Sophomore guard Makenzie Tolson (Middletown Christian) and freshman guard Ashley Parrett (Ross) are contributing for Cincinnati Christian, which is 3-16 overall and 1-9 in the River States Conference West Division.

Tolson has started 10 games and is the Eagles’ third-leading scorer with a 10.8 average. She’s also getting 1.9 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game while leading CCU with 41 treys. Her free-throw percentage is 75.7.

Parrett has made four starts and is averaging 3.3 points, 2.1 boards and 1.2 assists per contest.

The Eagles will visit Brescia (Ky.) on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Men's swimming: Junior Mark Andrew (Middletown) helped Penn defeat visiting West Chester 175-113 last Friday in Philadelphia.

Andrew was part of a first-place unit in the 200-yard medley relay (1:32.71) and took second in the 100 backstroke (51.79).

The Quakers will travel to Princeton, N.J., for the Ivy League Championships on Feb. 22-24.

Wrestling: Freshman Alex Kowal (Fenwick) has a 16-6 record at 157 pounds for Ohio Northern. He's got three falls, three technical falls and three major decisions.

The Polar Bears will host Otterbein on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Hockey: Sophomore forward Jason Tackett (Lakota East) has played in 20 games for Ferris State, collecting one goal and three assists.

The Bulldogs are 12-17-1 overall and 9-12-1 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. They will play at Alaska on Friday and Saturday at 11:07 p.m.
