Andrew Emrick is playing a major role off the bench this season for the Fairmont (W.Va.) State University men’s basketball team.
The 6-foot-9 junior forward and Lakota East High School graduate is the Falcons’ third-leading scorer (11.1) and is shooting 63.2 percent from the floor, having made just one start this year.
Emrick is also averaging 3.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. He’s hitting 36.8 percent of his shots from 3-point range.
Freshman guard Jarrett Cox (Lakota East) is redshirting this season for the Falcons, who are 14-4 overall. They are 11-1 and tied for first place with West Liberty (W.Va.) in the Mountain East Conference.
FSU will host Wheeling (W.Va.) Jesuit on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Men’s swimming: Sophomore Brice Dixon (Lebanon) contributed to five first-place finishes for Malone last weekend in a 184-138 victory over Notre Dame College in a two-day, home-and-home dual.
Dixon won the 100-yard individual medley (56.74) and was second in the 100 backstroke (57.64) and 1,000 freestyle (10:52.66). He was on four victorious relay teams — the 200 medley (1:40.72), 400 medley (3:45.42), 200 free (1:31.19) and 400 free (3:22.50).
Malone will host Penn State Behrend on Friday at 5 p.m.
Women’s basketball: Freshman forward Aubriana Bellard (Middletown) is shooting 50 percent from the floor in 11 games off the bench this season for Ohio Dominican.
Bellard has 12 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and two blocks for the Panthers, who are 10-9 overall and 7-6 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
ODU hosts Malone on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
Men’s indoor track & field: Sophomore Sam Krabacher (Badin) was part of two victories for Ohio Northern last weekend at the Findlay Alumni Classic.
Krabacher won the 800-meter run (1:58.87) and contributed to a first-place finish in the distance medley relay (10:28.96).
The Polar Bears will host the Joe Banks Invitational on Saturday.
Women’s indoor track & field: Miami redshirt senior Sarah Starrett (Talawanda) took seventh place in the 3,000-meter run last Saturday at the Indiana Relays in Bloomington, Ind.
Starrett’s time was 10:14.83. The RedHawks will return to action Friday at the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
