College Insider: Hamilton’s Jones continues to shine at Wilmington

Senior Christian Jones has continued to play at a high level this season with the Wilmington College men’s basketball team.

The Hamilton High School graduate is the seventh-leading scorer in the Ohio Athletic Conference with an 18.9 average for the Quakers, who are 4-8 overall and 0-6 in the OAC.

Jones is averaging 2.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.8 steals per game. He’s shooting 47.3 percent from the floor, 39.5 percent from 3-point range and 79.2 percent from the foul line.

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound guard has 1,128 career points and a 13.1 scoring average in 86 games. He’s made 79 starts.

Wilmington returns to action at Muskingum on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Women's basketball: Junior forward Naomi Grandison (Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy) of West Chester Township is the top 3-point shooter for Malone, hitting 47.4 percent of her shots from behind the arc.

Grandison is averaging 9.9 points and 5.2 boards per game. She’s also shooting 42 percent from the floor and 89.5 percent from the charity stripe.

The Pioneers, 4-8 overall and 2-6 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, will host Lake Erie on Thursday at 8 p.m.

• Junior guard/forward Hayley Hudson (Ross) is averaging 5.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game for Mount St. Joseph.

She’s played in 10 games, starting nine, and has converted 11 treys for the Lions, who are 8-5 overall and 4-2 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Freshman guard/forward Olivia Keene (Badin) has made nine appearances off the bench. She’s got 9 points, 16 rebounds and five steals.

MSJ will be at home against Transylvania on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

• Sophomore guard Tristan Philpot (Lakota East) is playing 22.1 minutes per game and has made three starts for Indianapolis, which is 5-10 overall and 2-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Philpot is averaging 2.3 points and 1.8 rebounds per contest and has dished out 15 assists.

The Greyhounds will visit Southern Indiana on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
