College Insider: Badin’s Lampe part of Ashland’s NCAA soccer appearance

Sophomore goalkeeper Abby Lampe contributed to Ashland University’s run to the NCAA Division II women’s soccer tournament this season.

The Badin High School graduate played in seven games and started six for the Eagles, leading the team’s goalies in goals-allowed average (0.60) and save percentage (.875).

Ashland finished 10-5-5 (4-2-3 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) after losing 1-0 to Ohio Valley in the first round of the NCAA tourney Nov. 8 in Big Rapids, Mich. Lampe collected three saves in the game.

Men's soccer: Anderson (Ind.) senior midfielder Jacob Pokorski (Monroe) has been named to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference first team and the Google Cloud Academic All-District squad selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

It’s the third straight year Pokorski has received All-District 7 honors. He’s now eligible for an Academic All-America award.

An education major, Pokorski carries a 3.77 grade point average. He led the Ravens in scoring this season with eight goals and seven assists.

Pokorski and junior midfielder Sean Cain (Monroe) started every game for Anderson, which finished 6-10-2 overall and 3-5-1 in the HCAC. Cain had three goals and four assists.

Football: Three local players have contributed for Mercyhurst, which is 4-6 overall and 3-4 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division.

Sophomore defensive lineman Xavier Martin (Lakota East) has nine solo tackles, 12 assists, 4.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and one forced fumble.

Freshman defensive lineman Ayron Thompson Jr. (Middletown) has nine solo tackles, five assists, two tackles for loss and one sack.

Freshman running back Diondre Cooper (Middletown) has four carries for 9 yards and a touchdown.

The Lakers will host Millersville (Pa.) at noon Saturday in Erie, Pa.

• Senior safety John Kirby (Lebanon) is the second-leading tackler for Rose-Hulman. He has 37 solos, 25 assists and three interceptions.

The Fightin’ Engineers are 4-5 overall and 4-3 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. They will host Earlham for Senior Day on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
