Series history: Ohio State leads 72-12-5. The Buckeyes won 38-17 last season in Columbus. Ohio State has won 21 games in a row. That streak doesn’t include a 2010 victory that was vacated. Indiana last beat the Buckeyes in 1988. The teams tied 27-27 in 1990. Ohio State’s longest winning streak in the series is 23 games (1960-86).

Coaches: Urban Meyer enters his sixth season with the Buckeyes with a mark of 61-6. His career record in 15 seasons is 165-29. … Tom Allen is 0-1 as Indiana head coach. He took over the program before the Foster Farms Bowl last season. Indiana lost 26-24 to Utah. He’s the 29th coach in Indiana history. He’s a first-time head coach at the college level.

Ohio State notes: The Buckeyes have averaged 39.6 points per game in their last three games in Bloomington. … Meyer is 15-0 as a head coach in openers. He’s 57-5 in games played in August and September. … Ohio State has won 36 of its last 38 season openers. This is the second time in three years it has opened the season with a true road game. It won 42-24 at Virginia Tech in 2015. … This is the third time Ohio State has played its opener on a Thursday. It beat Wyoming in 1997 and Marshall in 2010 at Ohio Stadium.

Indiana notes: The Hoosiers have averaged 24.5 points per game against Ohio State in the last five games in the series. That’s the second-highest average among Big Ten teams in the same span. … IU will honor former head coach Lee Corso (1973-82) at the end of the first quarter, presenting him with the Bill Orwig Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions made by a non-alumnus. Corso is in town with ESPN’s College Gameday, along with Centerville grad and former Ohio State quarterback Kirk Herbstreit. … This is the fifth time in eight years Indiana has opened the season on a Thursday. … Indiana has won 13 of its last 14 season openers. … The Hoosiers were 6-7 last season and 4-5 in the Big Ten East. … Indiana is 0-29 against teams ranked No. 1 or 2.
