Smith was injured on the very last play the Bengals ran Sunday in a 34-7 loss at Minnesota — a deep ball from backup quarterback AJ McCarron to Josh Malone that fell incomplete on fourth-and-5 with 2:06 to go.

Smith, a nine-year veteran, signed a one-year deal before the start of the season to compete at right guard position, but moved to tackle when Jake Fisher was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list in early November with a heart condition. Smith played in 13 games, including eight starts.

Murray, a 6-foot-5, 304-pound first-year player, originally signed with Denver as a college free agent in 2016 and spent his entire rookie season on the Broncos’ practice squad. The Broncos waived him during final cuts this year, and he spent the first 10 games this season on Tampa Bay’s practice squad. The Buccaneers released him from their practice squad on Nov. 21, and he was signed to the Saints’ practice squad on Dec. 4.

The Bengals also signed free agent linebacker Connor Harris to the practice squad. The 6-foot, 243-pound rookie signed as a college free agent with the N.Y. Jets this season and was waived on final cuts. He later spent eight games on Tampa Bay’s practice squad this season.
