West Chester golf, entertainment facility breaks ground

TopGolf International will open first Butler County site in summer 2016.

The global sports entertainment community broke ground late last week on a 64,232-square-foot recreational entertainment facility as part of a more than 200,000-square-foot expansion of The Streets of West Chester.

Topgolf’s new three-level location will offer competitive golfing games for all ages and skill levels and advanced technology to track players’ shots.

The entertainment complex will feature 102 climate-controlled hitting bays that can host up to six players at one time and a fully-enclosed driving range that provides almost 100 percent containment of the balls.

The “upscale, laid-back ambiance” will include 230 high-definition flat-screen TVs, an extensive food and beverage menu and up to 3,000 square feet of private event space

The new facility will start hiring for 450 jobs in late spring 2016 and open in early summer, according to Adrienne Chance, spokeswoman for Topgolf, which is headquartered in Dallas, Texas.

Jobs will be posted at www.topgolf.com/careers, which features an online application, as well as recruitment events.

There are currently 22 locations worldwide, 19 of which are in the United States, and seven locations under construction, Chance said. It serves 8 million people annually.

Topgolf plans to open 50 new locations in the next three years, she said.

West Chester Twp. is “the perfect partner” for Topgolf as it looks to start its expansion in the Midwest, according to Zach Shor, Topgolf’s real estate vice president.

“West Chester exemplifies what Topgolf is looking for in a market,” Shor said. “Its location is convenient for both the Dayton and downtown Cincinnati markets. With a large number of employers, West Chester also offers a strong daytime population and demographics that align with our target audience.”

Topgolf West Chester will serve approximately 450,000 visitors in its first year of operation, according to Shor.

Founded in 2000, Topgolf has 22 locations worldwide serving a projected 8 million guests annually.

Nearly half of all Topgolf guests describe themselves as “non-golfers.”

New locations not only create 450 full- and part-time jobs, but also tend to attract other popular franchises to the area, company officials said.

Economic output in West Chester alone is expected to surpass $264.5 million over a 10-year period, according to a third party audit.

West Chester Twp. Administrator Judi Boyko said the township is excited to welcome Topgolf.

“As a national brand and destination entertainment center, Topgolf validates and promotes West Chester as a successful first-to-market location in the Greater Cincinnati area,” she said.

Topgolf is leasing 12 acres from Lincoln Property Company, which announced in July 2014 a second phase for The Streets of West Chester. Besides Topgolf, that second phase already is confirmed to include a new 120,149-square-foot Bass Pro Shops and a 64,232-square-foot Main Event Entertainment.

The Streets of West Chester opened in 2004 just off I-75’s Union Centre Boulevard interchange. It includes AMC West Chester 18, Barnes & Noble, Bravo! Cucina Italiana, P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, Mitchell’s Fish Market, Chico’s, J. Jill, Jos. A. Bank Clothier, LOFT, sMari Designs and other dining, shopping and entertainment options.
