A unique demolition: Former theater torn down as two adjoining buildings remain

The owner of a demolition company said the former Studio Theater on Central Avenue will be demolished within one month.

Bob Ryder, owner of Vicker’s Demolition, called the process “slow but steady” because safety is a top priority. He said the two occupied buildings on both sides of the theater slowed the demolition. Those buildings are owned by Liberty Spirits.

Otherwise, he said, the theater “would be on the ground.”

Ryder said ever since his company started demolishing the theater on May 21, longtime Middletown residents have stopped and shot photos. The building has been vacant since 1988.
