Worst two-year record in school history: The boys basketball and football teams have a combined 15-51 record, or .227 winning percentage, the last two seasons. There have been three football and three basketball coaches in the last five seasons.

Football team went 1-19 under Engleka: For the first time in the 100-year school history, Middletown's football team went 0-10 under Lance Engleka. Last season, the Middies were 1-9 and Engleka resigned, citing death threats he allegedly received a social media.
Last football coach with winning record was Krause: The last Middletown High School football coach with a winning career record was Jason Krause, who was 26-7 in three seasons. He left for a similar coaching job at GMC rival Fairfield. Since then, the Middies have been coached by Troy Everhart (15-17), Chris Wells (8-12), and Lance Engleka (1-19).
Basketball team hasn't had winning season since 2014: Middletown, which has won a state-record seven state championships, hasn't had a winning season since the Middies went 19-7 and tied for the Greater Miami Conference title in 2013-14. In the four years since, the Middies are 37-59.
Not all news has been bad: Middletown's Conant Smith, a junior, finished second in the state cross country meet this fall. Several Middletown wrestlers just advanced. Jordan Lawson, general manager at Wildwood Golf Club, recently was named boys golf coach. The boys and girls bowling teams advanced to the district tournament.
