5 things already happening near the giant Spooky Nook sports facility project in Hamilton

The proposed Spooky Nook Sports at Champion Mill gigantic indoor sports and convention center won’t open until mid-2021, but things are already starting to happen around, and because of, the development.

Here are some of them:

Streets changing

Hamilton officials will soon be closing two streets — Rhea and Warwick avenues — and replacing them with a new street called Champion Boulevard.

New apartments open

The Marcum Apartments opened this fall in downtown Hamilton, part of The Marcum development, which also will include street-level restaurants Tano Bistro & Catering, Bone Brothers Wings and The Casual Pint craft-beer market.

New tavern offers games

A new tavern, with a theme twist of offering hundreds of board games and other family fun, recently opened at 345 North 3rd St.

Biking/hiking path moving forward

The 2.96-mile Beltline bicycling/hiking path on Hamilton’s West Side, which uses a rail line that connected the Champion Paper Mill with the railroad grid, will begin construction sometime this year. The first segment will be about half a mile between Eaton and Cleveland avenues.
