Thieves target a Middletown market for the second time in two days. This time, the door wouldn’t break.

Someone tried to break into a Middletown business on two straight days last week, although the second attempt failed, according to a Middletown police record.

Two men threw a rock and kicked the bottom of the glass door at Lefferson Mart, 4301 Lefferson Road, on Wednesday but were unable to enter the business. When police arrived at 3:53 a.m., they said the glass door was broken, but not shattered, the record read.

The owner was called and he and police watched the video footage. It showed a dark colored SUV driving from Aaron Drive, parking near a dumpster and two men getting out of the vehicle, the record read. The SUV then drove west on Lefferson Road.

Once the two men were unable to break into the business, the video showed them running back by the dumpster and getting back into the SUV.

Police found foot prints and a cigarette butt near the front door.

On Tuesday morning, two men, driving a SUV, allegedly broke into a gas station and stole 100 cartons of cigarettes and more than $4,000 in cash, according to a police report.

Police received an interior motion alarm at 2:38 a.m. Tuesday from Marathon gas station, 1601 Germantown Road. The front glass door was busted, police said. No one was inside the business, according to the report.

The owner of the gas station played police the security footage and it showed two men — both wearing black clothing, with winter coats with hoods — approach the building from a driveway just east of the parking lot. One man stood near Germantown Road to watch for incoming cars while the other male picked up a stack of firewood and threw it through front glass door, according to the report.
