These counterfeit bills police are seeing locally have a pretty obvious flaw, if you look closely

Police in Oxford received two reports of counterfeit money being passed in local businesses within days of each other.

The first report, made at 10:28 p.m. Feb. 7, involved a fake $100 bill, while the second, made at 4 a.m. Feb. 10, was a fake $20 bill

The fake $100 bill was passed by an unknown while male at KDS Express on College Corner Pike. The man used the phony bill to pay for cigarettes and gasoline and received change before leaving the store. The transaction was captured on video, but the man was not immediately identified.

The man is seen in the video leaving in a white four-door sedan.

According to the police report, an attempt was made to cover up letters on both sides of the bill, but the letters “GECERSIZDIR” are visible. A search revealed those letters indicated counterfeit bills manufactured in Turkey.

The second counterfeit money report was made at Brickstreet bar, and the fictitious $20 bill was discovered while the night’s proceeds were being counted.

The manager told the officer the bill had been used at the patio entrance sometime through the night’s business.
