Deadline coming soon to register to vote for November election

While presidential election years may get all of the attention, voters in the region this year will decide on hundreds of tax issues, local mayor, city and school races as well as State Issue 2.

The deadline to register to vote is Oct. 10 and Secretary of State Jon Husted announced this week an effort to get more Ohioans to vote in local elections.

“Let’s remember that there are no ‘off-year’ elections,” said Secretary Husted. “This November, Ohioans will be voting on a number of important local and statewide issues. Fortunately, registering to vote and casting a ballot in Ohio has never been easier. I hope that through our work to raise awareness, more eligible Ohioans will get registered and make their voice heard.”

Voters may go to to register online or update an existing registration. Voter registration forms can also be printed from or obtained from a local library or board of elections office.

Voter registration online in Ohio just started earlier this year. However, only 3,700 people so far have used the system.

State issue 2 is the big ballot issue this year and it’s shaping up to be one of the most expensive advertising campaigns in state history.

Issue 2 would require that the state, including the Ohio Department of Medicaid, pay the same or lower prices for prescription drugs as the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs — which currently negotiates drug prices 20 to 24 percent less than other agencies.
