North Carolina man sentenced in Middletown rape case

A North Carolina man has been sentenced to jail for the sexual assault of a co-worker in Middletown.

Warren County Judge Timothy Tepe today sentenced Lency August, 51, of Hamlet, N.C. to 10 years in prison and classified him as Tier III sex offender.

Earlier this month, August was found guilty of rape, a first-degree felony for the 2017 sexual assault of an adult female acquaintance.

The Warren County Prosecutor’s Office said on Feb. 22, August sexually assaulted a female acquaintance near the Kohl’s store in Middletown. The woman was driving August to work when he became angry and struck her in the face multiple times. August forced the vehicle to be driven to the side of Kohl’s where he proceeded to sexually assault the woman.

The woman reported the assault the following day to police. August fled to North Carolina and committed additional crimes for which he is currently serving a prison sentence, the prosecutor’s office said.

August will be returned to Ohio to begin serving his sentence after he has completed his sentence in North Carolina, the prosecutor’s office said.

According to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety website, August is currently serving a six-year prison term for second-degree kidnapping which expires in September 2021. August has several previous convictions and prison terms, according to the website.
