New library branch at Liberty Center opens to accolades

A new full-service MidPointe Library branch at Liberty Center is garnering rave reviews from parents who live in or near the growing Liberty Twp. community.

Laura Ferryman said she and 4-year-old son Easton were “super excited” about the new Liberty Twp. location because it is much closer to their West Chester Twp. home.

“This new location offers convenience and I love that this is mostly for kids,” Ferryman said. “There’s a ton of kids’ stuff and that’s perfect for these guys.”

Located on the second floor of Liberty Center’s Foundry building, the new library branch features on-site programming, WiFi, public computers with Internet access, the ability to reserve items for checkout and more.

Zeenat Jamal-Karimkhan, of West Chester Twp., said the new location is equidistant to the West Chester location, but there is much to love about the Liberty branch.

“It’s right next to the (Cincinnati) Children’s Discovery Center and, of course, with Liberty Center there’s always something going on, especially in the summer,” said Jamal-Karimkhan, who brought 2-year-old son Eisa to the branch’s grand opening Friday. “(Plus), it already looks like they have a different selection of books.”

The 3,681-square-foot library was slated to feature 5,000 items available for check out but more were added and that number is now closer to 10,000 thanks to “creative shelving arrangements,” according to Travis Bautz, MidPointe director.

Besides children’s books, the new library branch also has material for adults and young adults, including books, magazines, DVDs and compact discs.

Seating areas are plentiful including several roomy chairs with built in desks that offered parents and children ample space to sit and read together.

Self-checkout stations allowed patrons to check out numerous items all at once by placing them on a scanner.

Library system officials were thrilled when Liberty Center approached them with the opportunity to locate the library system’s fifth branch inside The Foundry, Liberty Center’s indoor shopping mall.

“Liberty Twp. has been growing over the past decade and we were realizing that we had this big service area population that we weren’t actually covering effectively with a brick and mortar site,” Bautz told the Journal-News.

Bonnie Riley, of Mason, who visits Liberty Center with 4-year-old grandson Beau, of Montgomery, every Friday for storytime at the Discovery Center said she misses the Cox Road location and the new Liberty location is “great.”

“It’s a great library but it’s nice to have something closer by,” she said. “It looks beautiful.”

The new branch is located at 7100 Foundry Row. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays. The Liberty Twp. branch is closed on Mondays.
