New Fairfield school construction about $1M under budget

The biggest new schools construction project in Fairfield’s history is on schedule and under budget.

Tom Weiser, director of business operations of the school system, told the board that so far the $80 million project is under budget by $1.4 million and on time.

“Things are really moving along,” he said.

Demolition on Fairfield Freshman School, which is adjacent to the recently demolished Central Elementary on Route 4, will begin Wednesday, said Weiser.

Teachers are scheduled to move into their classrooms in the new Central and Compass elementary schools and the new Freshman School on Aug. 6, he said.

Classes open for students on Sept. 5.
