New dining option coming to West Chester

New dining option Skally’s plans to open by next spring at 9885 Civic Centre Blvd. in the Streets of West Chester shopping center, which is home to Holtman’s Donuts, Matt the Miller’s Tavern, Chuy’s Tex-Mex, Duluth Trading Co., Topgolf and Main Event Entertainment.

The restaurant, which has operated a location on West Galbraith Road in North College Hill since 1983, serves bread churned out next door at Skally’s Old World Bakery, allowing it to serve freshly made bagel sandwiches, pizzas, gyros and pita pocket sandwiches made with ham, turkey, roast beef or tuna, according to co-founder Drew Skally.

It could add a host of new items for the new location, including pita wraps, Reuben in a pita, salads with house-made dressings, soups, chili and gluten-free options, but “nothing is definite right now,” Skally told the Journal-News.

The new location also will serve as a catering operation to nearby businesses, Skally said.

He said he first identified the Streets of West Chester as possible location several years ago as Skally’s Old World Bakery sought to bring a manufacturing facility and corporate headquarters to Liberty Twp., a project that ended up in Dearborn County, Ind.

Joshua Rothstein of OnSite Retail Group LLC, which handles marketing and leasing of the new development, said Skally’s is a welcome addition to the shopping center because both it and next-door neighbor Holtman’s Donuts “further perpetuate what the developments of the future need to look like in order to get people off the computer and out shopping.”

“The fact they are just like Holtman’s, homegrown, is great and adds … another indicator of organic growth in a sea of national retail and restaurants over in West Chester, which is … more appealing to today’s shoppers,” Rothstein. “Then of course it offers a restaurant that really hits three, if not four, day parts: breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night food, which is great.”
