6-year-old Ohio boy, uncle found after being reported missing, police say

Authorities said Thursday that they have located a 6-year-old Ohio boy who was reported missing earlier this week and believed to be with his uncle.

Update 3:45 p.m. EST Jan. 30: Mansfield police said they found Zane Clay, 6, and his uncle, Timothy Lee Whitt, safe on Thursday.

"We are appreciative of all the outside agencies and volunteers who helped us," Capt. Shari Robertson told the Mansfield News Journal. She said authorities searched more than 180 houses Thursday in search of the pair.

Zane’s mother told police she had no way to contact Whitt after he failed to return home as expected with her son on Wednesday. Officers said Whitt is homeless.

Original report: Authorities in Ohio are searching for a missing 6-year-old boy who may be with his uncle.

According to the Mansfield Police Department, Zane Clay, 6, and his uncle, Timothy Lee Whitt, 44, were last seen about 9 a.m. Wednesday leaving a home at 117 Pleasant Ave. in Mansfield.

″Zane's mother became concerned when they had not returned to her home later in the evening," the department said in a news release. "Mansfield police have checked numerous locations for both subjects, to no avail. Both are believed to be on foot."

WJW-TV reported that Zane, who has blue eyes and "reddish hair," stands 3 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs 48 pounds. Whitt, who has blue eyes and brown hair, stands 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds, the outlet reported.
