Woman tries to shoot driver in road rage incident, shoots husband in head instead, police say

An Alabama woman is facing multiple felony charges after she tried to shoot another driver Saturday during a road rage incident and instead shot her husband in the head, authorities said.

Erica Cole is charged with attempted murder, assault and reckless endangerment, according to WVTM in Birmingham. She is being held in the Cullman County Detention Center without bond.

Nicholas Cole is in stable condition at the University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital, the news station reported.

The Cullman Times reported that the incident began around 6:45 p.m. Saturday when the Coles got into a road rage incident with another driver on Alabama 69 in Dodge City. It was not clear if Erica or Nicholas Cole was driving at the time.

The incident continued at a home on County Road 160 in Bremen, about 5 miles away. The Times reported that a fight broke out at the house, at which time Erica Cole is accused of trying to shoot the third party.

The bullet instead struck her husband in the head.

Additional details of the case are being withheld due to its ongoing nature, the Times said.
