Wisconsin boy gifts special doll to NYC girl who lost arm to flesh-eating disease

The doll, which also has the same hair color and skin tone as the New York City girl, was created by A Doll Like Me, an organization founded by Amy Jandrisevits of New Berlin, Wisconsin.

Mimi named the doll Precious, WABC reported.

Mimi lost her arm after experiencing pain and fever in November 2017, the television station reported. She had been taken to an area hospital and was treated for septic shock and a flesh-eating disease caused by group A streptococcus, WABC reported.

Mimi suffered multi-organ failures, and doctors decided to amputate her left arm, a procedure that saved her life, according to the television station.

After months of rehabilitation, Mimi learned to walk again, tie her shoes and play sports, including basketball, WABC reported. She went with her mother to Middletown, New York, recently, to be fitted for a prosthetic arm, according to the television station.

Mimi will start second grade in the fall.
