Weinstein Co. owes money to Malia Obama, Jennifer Lawrence and thousands more

In the latest chapter for the embattled Weinstein Co., Harvey Weinstein's former company announced plans to file for bankruptcy Monday night.

One of the more fascinating documents in the company's bankruptcy filings is a 394-page list of people the Weinstein Co. owes money to, including former first daughter Malia Obama, who worked at the company as an intern in 2017.

Other celebrity names on the list include Robert De Niro, David Bowie, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Bay, Daniel Radcliffe, Seth Rogen, Heidi Klum and Ryan Coogler, as well as frequent Weinstein collaborators Quentin Tarantino and Kevin Smith.

The amounts that the Weinstein Co. owes the celebrities are not specified in the letter. The company's bankruptcy filings list between $500,000,001 and $1 billion in liabilities, and the same range for assets.

Claims listed in the bankruptcy petition for the company’s 30 largest creditors peak at $17.4 million, owed to a creditor listed as Sartraco Inc. Other creditors include Chinese film company Wanda Pictures, which is listed with a $14.4 million claim; media giant Viacom International, with a claim of more than $5.6 million; and talent agency Creative Artists Agency, which is owed roughly $1.5 million.

When the news of the Weinstein scandal broke in October 2017, Barack and Michelle Obama released a joint statementcondemning the behavior of their daughter's former boss, saying they were "disgusted" by the Weinstein reports.

"Any man who demeans and degrades women in such fashion needs to be condemned and held accountable, regardless of wealth or status. We should celebrate the courage of women who have come forward to tell these painful stories. And we all need to build a culture — including by empowering our girls and teaching our boys decency and respect — so we can make such behavior less prevalent in the future."
