Trump administration invites Russian President Putin to Washington

The White House has officially issued an invitation to Russian President Vladimir Putin, multiple media outlets are reporting.

The invitation was announced Friday morning by the U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton, Reuters reported.

It has not been announced if Putin accepted the invitation, The New York Times reported.

Putin has met President Donald Trump multiple times at various international meetings, but they have only had one official summit in Helsinki this past July, the Times reported.

It isn’t the only planned meeting for the Russian leader and the Trump administration.

Trump and Putin plan to hold a meeting in Paris on Nov. 11 during ceremonies to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, the Times reported.

The proposed Putin trip to Washington has many wondering about the timing as intelligence agencies investigate allegations that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election, Reuters reported.

Trump has said in the past it is in the country's interest to develop a working relationship with the Russian president, according to Reuters.
