Teen takes 80-year-old grandpa to prom

It was Joy Webb's very first prom, so she didn't want just any old classmate as a date. She needed someone special to share it with--someone she could have fun with, someone who would appreciate the whimsy of the whole event.

So, why not her 80-year-old grandfather?

"My family is everything to me, and I love him so much, and it's just like really special to me because I know not many people get to do that," Webb told WHNT. "I know he loves me and I love him, and it's just really neat and special."

It was a big day for "Poppa" as well, who donned his first tuxedo to the dance. And, this was his first prom too.

According to WHNT, in all his eight decades, James Drain has never attended the dance.

He said his granddaughter came to him and said, "You’re the one I wanted! Hey, will you come to the prom with me and be my beau?’ And I said I sure will!”

Chatting before heading off to the dance, the two shared an adorable exchange.

"I can't wait, can you?" Drain asked his granddaughter.

"No, I can't wait either. I'm so excited. You look so handsome," she replied.
