NY teacher in pornography-link mixup cleared by school district

A New York teacher was cleared after accidentally sending students a link to pornography, authorities said Friday.

The Onondaga County Sheriff's Office, along with the Onondaga County District Attorney, said no criminal activity occurred after the Baldwinsville middle school teacher, who has not been identified, sent the link to students, WSTM reported.

The male teacher at Ray Middle School, using Google Documents, sent students links to websites in order to complete a homework assignment, The Syracuse Post-Standard reported. Investigators determined that one of the links was no longer functional as an educational link and contained pornography, the newspaper reported.

The teacher remains on leave, WSTM reported.

Superintendent Matthew McDonald told the television station, “The district is reviewing all of its internet protocols and safety measures to ensure that our students remain safe.”

Officials began investigating the incident last week, Spectrum News reported. The school district filed a report to the New York State Education and law enforcement officials.

School district officials did not reveal how many students received the link, the Post-Standard reported.
