The field was cut to 11 when Epicharis, a 4-1 favorite was scratched from the race earlier Saturday after a veterinarian exam revealed continued inflammation in the colt’s right front hoof.

Epicharis was eligible for a $1 million bonus by the New York Racing Association’s attempt to lure a Japanese horse to compete.

Congratulations to everyone involved. What a team effort. What a Triple Crown season. Thanks to @TheNYRA @NBCSports
