Snow Moon to peak Sunday

The night sky will be putting on a show this weekend.

It’s time for this month’s full moon, most commonly called the Snow Moon.

The peak of the moon will happen Sunday at 2:33 a.m. ET, according to Space.com.

It got its name because of February's tendency to have a lot of snow, almanac.com reported. It is the snowiest month according to the National Weather Service.

According to The Old Farmer's Almanac, it is also called:

  • "Shoulder to Shoulder Around the Fire Moon" by the Wishram people in the Pacific Northwest.
  • "No Snow in the Trails Moon" by the Zuni in the Southwest.
  • "Bone Moon" by the Cherokee in the Southeast.

The next full moon, the Worm Moon, will happen on March 9 at 1:48 p.m. ET, according to Space.com.
