Simone Biles earns record-breaking 24th world championships medal

Simone Biles stood alone among all gymnasts Sunday as she turned in a record-breaking performance at the 2019 world championships in Germany.

Biles, 22, the reigning Olympic all-around champion and a five-time world all-around champion, notched the 24th world championships medal of her storied career, winning the balance beam Sunday, according to the BBC. That snapped the record she held briefly with Vitaly Scherbo of Belarus. Biles earned the 23rd world championships medal of her career Saturday.

Biles won her 18th gold medal Sunday as she became the world's most decorated gymnast. China's Liu Tingting and Li Shijia took silver and bronze respectively.

Biles competed in the balance beam and will competed in the floor exercise finals Sunday, The Washington Post reported. Biles had the highest score in qualifying in both events, the newspaper reported.

According to NBC Sports, Biles earned medals in every event last year, becoming the first gymnast to do so at the world championships in 31 years.
