Missing Ohio boy with autism found dead in pond, deputies say

A missing Ohio boy who has autism was found dead in a pond Sunday, authorities said.

Search crews discovered the body of Mathew Converse, 8, of Lima, about 3:30 p.m., just hours after he vanished from his home around midnight, the Allen County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post.

"We regret to inform you that Mathew Converse was located in a body of water not far from his residence at approximately 3:34 pm this afternoon," the post read. "Mathew was found deceased. Several agencies are on scene and the investigation into his disappearance and subsequent death will continue. No further information is available at this time."

Hundreds of residents had been looking for the boy, who was "drawn to water, trains and parks," the Lima News reported.
